Add Goals from Investment Accounts
The Goals page makes it easy to add savings goals that are linked to your investment accounts by name.
Smart Name Suggestions
When you go to add a new goal, the name field suggests:
1. Investment account names that don't yet have a matching goal (highest priority)
2. Common goal names like Index Fund, 401k, IRA, Roth IRA, Money Market, and Emergency Savings (fallback)
Pre-Filled Defaults
When you type a goal name that matches an investment account:
- Principal: Pre-filled from the account's current balance
- Payment: Pre-filled from recurring deposits (scheduled transactions with positive amounts)
- Annual Rate: Pre-filled from the account's expected return rate
These defaults only fill fields you haven't already changed, so your manual edits are preserved.
Step by Step
- Mark your investment accounts with the Investment checkbox and return rate (see previous lesson)
- Navigate to the Goals page
- In the "Add Goal" form, notice the placeholder suggests your first unused investment account name
- Type or use the suggested name — the principal, payment, and rate fields fill automatically
- Adjust any values as needed and click "Add Goal"
- Repeat for each investment account
Tracking Progress
Once your goals are added, the progress chart shows how your projected portfolio compares to your target FI Number. All fields are inline-editable, so you can update values anytime as your accounts grow.
